TAITAITAITAITAI is an artist that makes installations that melt. These installations look like fantastical abject worlds where her body/stand-ins for her body change their original forms/identities in exhibition. They highlight actions of systemic dehumanization through highly abstracted scenes that turn up the volume on sensory connections between her viewers and the materials she works with. She emphasizes processes that often are hidden and puts them on the forefront. This comes from a concern about the homogenization in aesthetics and aspirations that come from contemporary society’s favoring of products and capital success.
She was recently named a 2026 Newcity Magazine Breakout Artist and 2024 Comfort Station Artist to Watch. Her presentation history has spanned across fine, performing, and public art venues. Recent locations include the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Museo Universitario del Chopo (Mexico), Graham Foundation, Logan Center, W.I.H.S.H. projects, Leisure., No Nation Art Lab, Comfort Station, The Lawn, and Siren Arts. Recent residencies through LATITUDE Chicago and Chicago Performance Lab have helped her develop her larger scale works.
TAITAITAITAI performs under a given name Tina Wang. Past performances have been hosted by Essex Gallery, FiveMyles, Monte Vista Projects, New York Live Arts, ChaShaMa, Judson Memorial, to name a few. She obtained her MFA in Visual Arts at the University of Chicago, MS in Translation Studies at New York University, Certificate in Dance Performance at Peridance Capezio Center, and BA in Psychology and Dance at Washington University in St. Louis. As a Taiwanese citizen who grew up in Latin America, she became a US citizen in 2023 after living in New York City.
